Essential Oils Great for the Little Ones
This is by far my little ones favorite essential oil. Lavender is very calming and relaxing and a great oil for helping kids settle down at bedtime. It is also very soothing when applied to stressed skin.

This oil is great for kids who need a little courage. It is very calming and can help with confidence ans self-esteem. My little one asks for this oil often :)

This is a great blend for hyperactive children. It is very calming and promotes peace and relaxation making it a great oil before bedtime.

This blend is formulated to help stimulate the mind and help your little ones focus. This is a great oil to add to their diffuser buddy for school or when they are doing homework.

Citrus, Rose & Crystal Bath Soak

Citrus, Rose & Crystal Bath Soak
After making the Lavender Rose Salt Scrub a few weeks ago I got to thinking how lovely a bath soak would be :) So I got out my mixing bowls and essential oils and went to work. With Mother's day just around the corner this recipe makes a perfect gift for your mom, sister, aunt or friend. This recipe combines the lovely floral scent of rose with the sweet citrus scent of Tangerine and Bergamot essential oils and the heart opening energy of Rose Quartz stones.

Supplies:
Glass mixing bowl
1 cup Epsom Salts
1 cup pink Himalayan salt (I used the larger granular)
2 tbsp organic dried rose petals (or more if you like)
20 drops rose hip seed oil*
Glass jar
muslin bags *
5-7 small tumbled rose quartz crystals*
*These ingredients are optional

Directions:
  1. In a glass bowl mix salts and dried rose petals together until well combined.
  2. Add in rose hip seed oil and essential oils and mix well. Rose hip seed will make this moisturizing to the skin.
  3. Store in an airtight glass jar.
  4. To use scoop 1/4-1/2 cup into a small muslin bag. (You can add directly to the bath but you will want to skim the dried rose petals before letting the water drain).
  5. Add muslin bag into warm bath water and swish around until salts dissolve.
  6. Add 5-7 small tumbled rose quartz crystals in the tub around you. (Be sure to remove before draining the water)
  7. Sit back, relax and breath in the delicious scent.
So you may be asking why crystals in the tub?
By infusing your bath water with crystals it can help balance the chakras (energy centers) in the body, manifest intentions an influence energies. Crystals have their own healing frequencies and can travel easily in water because water is a good conductor. Water is also highly programmable so by adding the crystals you can raise the frequency of the bath water you are relaxing in. Win win!

Rose Quartz
Rose quartz is great stone for love, kindness, compassion and self-love. Good stone to use for emotional healing and to promote joy and peacefulness. Helps to open the heart chakra and connect with divine energy. Rose quartz has been used in beauty regimens for centuries. You can actually apply them to your face to areas that are puffy. Affirmations
Affirmations are positive statements that can help you to overcome  negative thoughts. When you repeat them often, and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes. Here are some great heart opening affirmations to use while soaking in your essential oil & crystal infused bath.

"I am fully open to giving and receiving love"
"My Love is unconditional"
"I invite peace into my heart"
"I open my heart to receive and express the energy of love"

Tangerine has a sweet, calming aroma. It has a very concentrated citrus scent that is sweeter than any others in the citrus family. It is great for emotional balance and is very calming to the mind.

Bergamot has a very uplifting and refreshing scent perfect for opening up the heart chakra to radiate love energy. It is also good for emotional balance and can help relieve tension during times of occasional stress. It can be soothing to the skin & has skin cleansing properties.

Easy Fruit Tart

Easy Fruit Tart
I love to cook but baking is so not my thing... So when I needed to make a desert over the weekend for a gathering I was at a loss. I thought "a fruit tart sounds really yummy!" until I looked at how complicated the recipes were. No time for all of that! So I came up with an easy and delicious version of a fruit tart. This recipe takes minutes and is perfect for upcoming holidays like Easter and Mother's Day.

Supplies:
  • Large graham cracker pie crust (I used a ready made because of time but you could totally make your own)
  • 8 oz. organic cream cheese (softened)
  • 10 oz. organic Greek yogurt (I used 2 of the personal sized)
  • 1/3 cup coconut sugar
  • 8 drops Citrus Fresh Vitality essential oil
  • Fresh fruit (I used strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries)
Directions:
  1. If making your own crust, prepare crust. Or take the lid off a pre made one :)
  2. In a medium size mixing bowl (glass, stainless steel or ceramic. NOT PLASTIC) add softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt and coconut sugar. Mix with a spatula.
  3. Add Citrus Fresh essential oil and mix again until combined.
  4. Using a hand mixer, whip the cream cheese mixture for a few minutes on high until light and fluffy.
  5. Fill pie crust with filling and spread it evenly. Place in fridge while you prepare the fruit.
  6. Cut fruit and layer on top of the filling. This is the fun part where you can create fun little fruit designs.
  7. Put back in the fridge until ready to serve.
This puts a little twist on a fruit dip recipe I have made before. Using that recipe with a little tweek for the filling made this fruit tart super simple and so yummy!

Citrus Fresh is a blend of Orange, Grapefruit, Mandarin, Tangerine, Lemon, and Spearmint essential oils. This is my all time favorite essential oil to add to my water. (remember only use citrus oils in glass, stainless steel or ceramic). Citrus Fresh Vitality can also provide an internal boost with its antioxidants and cleansing properties. Use it in marinades. salad dressings and your next desert creation!

Spring is in the air!

Spring is in the air!
I love spring! After a long winter it always feels so nice to open up the windows and let the fresh air in the house and clear things out. This time of year I love to load up my diffuser and make room sprays with fresh citrus scents. By using essential oils instead of candles I am not only infusing my home with a lovely natural toxin free scent but my family and I can also enjoy the therapeutic benefits that essential oils have at the same time.

You can really play around with different essential oils and come up with so many different recipes. The base of the recipe is the same equal parts distilled water and a neutral spirit then add in your essential oils of choice. Here is the latest one I just made up to keep in the bathroom.

Spring Time Room Spray
Supplies:
4 oz. glass spray bottle (you can order these on amazon)
2 oz. distilled water
2 oz. neutral spirit (Witch hazel or vodka work well)

Directions:
1. Add liquids to glass spray bottle leaving a little room at the top.
2. Add in essential oils (The reason for adding the oil last is just incase you over fill with the water or neutral spirit.  You don't want to accidentally waste those precious essential oils by them spilling over:)
3. Add spray top and shake well before each use.
4. Spray in the air to freshen, spray on linens,  or spray on pillow before bed.

Tangerine has a sweet, calming aroma. It has a very concentrated citrus scent that is sweeter than any others in the citrus family. Paired with Lavender and Cedarwood in the recipe above make it perfect for a relaxing pillow spray for a restful night sleep.

Cedarwood essential oil’s woodsy, warm, balsamic aroma creates a relaxing, calming, and comforting atmosphere when diffused to help support a relaxing nighttime routine. The cleansing and moisturizing properties associated with Cedarwood also make it a great addition to your favorite skin care products. When applied topically, it can help maintain the appearance of healthy, youthful skin. You can also massage Cedarwood oil into your scalp to enhance the appearance of healthy-looking hair.

Some other fun combinations to try...

Key lime Pie
3 drops Lemon
5 drops Lime

Lemongrass Verbena
6 drops Lemongrass
4 drops Rosemary
2 drops Juniper
2 drops Peppermint

Essential oils for dry skin

Essential oils for dry skin
Winter weather have your skin feeling super dry? Last week I shared my beauty serum recipe for my combination/oil and blemish prone skin so I wanted to now share some oils that are great for those who have dry skin. After I had my daughter I had super dry skin for about a year which was something I was not accustomed to so I tried and used a lot of amazing oils and products and had great success!  (though now my hormones have leveled out my skin is back to combo/oily :)

Essential Oils for Dry Skin
Now if you are a DIYer and are ready to try out making your own beauty serum here are a few suggestions to start with. Lavender, Sandalwood and Frankincense.

Lavender  cleanses and soothes minor skin irritation, can be soothing to the skin after a day in the sun, reduces the appearance of blemishes and supports aging skin. It is wonderful applied to dry and stressed skin.

Sandalwood supports the appearance of healthy-looking skin and can be added to enhance your favorite skin and hair products. It is a much thicker essential oil and when applied to the skin is very moisturizing. For those of you who enjoy meditation and yoga this oil can also Inspires passion and promotes feelings of confidence and clarity.

Another great oil that I already mentioned in my recent blog post is Frankincense.

Carrier Oils for Dry Skin
For making your own beauty serums here are some good options for carrier oils for dry skin: Sweet Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Hemp Oil and Rosehip Seed Oil are all great options

Not into DIY?
This ready made beauty serum was a life saver for me and my super dry post pregnancy face :)

This serum contains essential oils like Blue Cypress and Lavender, known for their ability to restore the skin’s natural moisture balance. The scent is amazing and I loved how super soft my face felt after using. You simply add 3-5 drops to your moisturizer and apply.

Moisturizers
This cream is very moisturizing without being greasy. I love to use this on my dry hands and feet in the winter. Contains skin loving essentials like Sandalwood, Lavender and Myrrh.

This deep, ultra-hydrating lotion recaptures the qualities of younger-looking skin by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and helping skin feel smoother and more pliable. Contains essentials oils like Sandalwood, Cedarwood and Frankincense.

Rose Ointment is a deeply nourishing blend for dry skin. Rose essential oil improves skin texture, while Tea Tree works to soothe rough, irritated skin. This is great for super dry areas on your face, elbows and especially dry nails & cuticles on you hands and feet.

Everyone's body chemistry is different so mix and match and play around with what essential oils and products work best for your skin. As with changing any skincare routine you will need to give your skin a few weeks to adjust. Especially if you have been using skincare with toxins, your skin may go through a slight detox period.
