Oils & Crystals for Emotional Balance & Grounding

Oils & Crystals for Emotional Balance & Grounding
Right now many people are having some tough emotions. Feelings of fear and anxiety and feeling trapped to name a few. These emotions are closely related to our root chakra (located at the base of our spine) If you are not familiar with the chakras or energy centers, I'll give you a brief explanation. We have seven main chakras located along spine such as root (base of spine), Sacral (2" below belly button), Solar Plexus (2" above belly button), Heart (center of breast bone), Throat (the little indent at the base of your neck), Third Eye (between eyebrows) and Crown (located on the top of the head). Each chakra is associated with a color, different emotions and are related to different organs in the body. Trauma, stress and tension can throw our chakras out of wack manifesting in dis-ease in the body.

When our root chakra is blocked we can feel fear, go into survival mode, feel unstable, and maybe even unsafe. Essential oils and crystals can be used to hep support the chakras and help us re-balance them. I am going to share a few essential oils and crystals that I have personally been using to help remain grounded and calm during this time.

Smokey Quartz
Smokey Quartz is a very grounding stone and is associated with the root charka which is located at the base of the spine and the crown chakra located at the top of the head. It offers protection from energy that does not serve our highest good by transmuting it and grounding it into the earth. Carry a small tumbled stone in your pocket (near the root chakra) throughout the day. This stone can also amplify positive energy and help you to connect to higher spiritual guidance. It works well with other grounding stones such as Shungite, Black Tourmaline, and Obsidian.

Frankincense is very calming and grounding essential oil with an earthy, uplifting aroma. Apply to wrists and pressure points to support emotional balance. It can be used to increase spiritual awareness in meditation and prayer when applied or diffused. I like to apply a few drops to the crown of my head after washing my hair. The heat from the blow dryer diffuses the calming scent of Frankincense throughout the room. Frankincense may also be applied to the bottom of the feet to enhance feelings of being grounded.

Diffuse Frankincense during meditation or prayer to align yourself with compassion, inner peace, tolerance, and love. Place a piece of smokey quartz between your feet to enhance grounding.

"I am secure and grounded"
"I am peace, love, compassion and kindness"

Amethyst is a great stone for protection and purification by clearing one’s energy field of negative influences and attachments. It is associated with the 6th chakra (third eye) and 7th chakra (crown) and can support intuition and insight, connecting to your higher self, and manifestation, making it great to hold in your left hand (receiving hand) or placed between the eyebrows if lying down during meditation. Amethyst can be helpful for those working through addictions by bringing clarity to the mind and balancing the nervous system and brain.

Amethyst is a natural stress reliever and resonates well with Lavender essential oil. Lavenders' aromatic influence is very calming and relaxing, promotes consciousness, love, peace and a general sense of well-being. Lavender has been used to promote rest and relaxation and also has a spiritual frequency which can help to open the third eye chakra.

A great way to use amethyst and lavender essential oil together is to put a drop of lavender on a polished amethyst stone and massage the oil into the stone while meditating. The massaging can give you something to focus on while the scent of lavender will calm the mind and body. You can do this while repeating one the affirmations below.

“I am at ease in my mind, body, and spirit.”

“I am purified, uplifted, and protected through my connection to the Divine. “

Did you know that Shungite is the most powerful neutralizer of EMF’s?  Electromagnetic Frequencies (EMF’S) are emitted by our laptops, cell phones, and other electronic devices we use everyday. Place a piece of Shungite in front of your laptop or other electronic devices while using them or carry a piece in your pocket. Ferromagnetic stones like Shungite, Black Tourmaline, Hematite and Pyrite are very grounding. Ferromagnetism is the basic mechanism by which certain materials (such as iron) form permanent magnets, or are attracted to magnets. The theory is that the core of Mother Earth is a big ball of iron so working with stones that contain iron can help ground you to earth. Other things you can do if you are feeling out of sorts and don’t have a grounding stone like Shungite on hand is to go outside and stand barefoot in the grass or hug a tree. I know this may sound silly but this really will help ground you and bring you back to center. Shungite is a great stone for cleansing and aligns all body cells, dispels negativity, and opens one to receive spiritual light. You can make a healing gem elixir using Shungite by placing a polished stone in water for several hours. It transforms the water into biologically active substances, removing harmful microorganisms and pollutants.

Is a blend of White Fir, Black Spruce, Ylang Ylang, Pine, and other essential oils. It complements feelings of stability, clarity, and spirituality. Grounding’s warm and entrancing aroma can create an atmosphere that is perfect for finding self-awareness and confronting negative emotions. Diffuse or apply it topically as you stabilize and ground your day and work to cope with life’s daily challenges. Grounding has a powerful aroma that helps create a relaxing, calming, and comforting atmosphere when diffused. Apply to the back of neck or temples or the bottoms of the feet.

Hold a piece of Shungite and diffuse or apply Grounding during meditation while stating one of the affirmations below.

“I open myself to absolute purification, and the entry of Light into every atom of my being.”
"I am clear, pure, and balanced in my mind, body and spirit."

* I have two palm stones  that I use daily for grounding and to balance my energy. One is Shungite and the other is Soapstone. I hold the Shungite in my left hand and the Soapstone in my right for at least 10 minutes while I meditate and it is amazing how calm I feel afterwards.

I hope that these tips can be useful to you during this time. Meditation, yoga, and using my essential oils and crystals have really helped me to remain calm during this time and have allowed me to really look deep within myself and understand what is most important to me in life. This time at home can be a great time to really to some self study and look inward.
Together we can change the world one kind thought or action at a time :)

Lavender Amethyst Eye Pillow

Lavender Amethyst Eye Pillow
I love a good eye pillow! I have been using them for years but my old one was looking pretty yucky and was not washable. So I decided to step up my DIY eye pillow game and make one that has a washable cover but has other amazing soothing elements to it like lavender essential oil and amethyst crystals. I love to use my eye pillow at night to block out the light and love using one when I meditate.

Piece of fabric 11" x 6.5", I used unbleached muslin (eye pillow)
Sewing Machine (but you could totally do this by hand too :)
Pieces of decorative fabric 7" x 26" (eye pillow cover)

Filling Supplies:
2 cups organic flax seeds
1 cup pink Himalayan Salt
1 cup dried lavender
1/4 cup small tumbled amethyst chips (I got mine on ebay)

Eye Pillow Directions
  1. Cut muslin fabric 11" x 6".  Pin and sew a 1/4" seam on 3 sides leaving one end open.
  2. Iron seams open.
  3. Turn right side out and sew flat. Turn ends in about a 1/4" and iron flat
  4. Using a funnel fill eye pillow about 1/2 way full. I used 2 cups of flax seeds, 1 cup pink Himalayan salt, 1 cup dried lavender, 1/4 cup amethyst chips and 5 drops of lavender essential oil. I added all the ingredients to a bowl and mix them well before adding to the eye pillow. Sew ends closed.
* You could totally stop here for a quick and easy project but if you would like to be able to wash the cover see steps below.

Eye Pillow Cover Directions
  1. Cut a piece of decorative fabric 26" x 7"
  2. Fold over each end twice about 1/4" each fold and iron. This will give you a nice finished seam.
  3. Stitch each end to secure.
  4. Fold wrong sides fabric over, overlapping ends. Should be 11" long once folded. Pin to secure. Sew both sides with a 1/2" seam.

5. Iron seams open
6. Turn right side out and iron flat.
7. Insert filled eye pillow into cover
8. Lay down and place eye pillow over eyes and relax :)

You may be wondering why I chose the filling ingredients for this specific eye pillow. So here is a little run down of the benefits.

Flax Seeds
Flax seeds give the eye pillow a nice weight. Having a weighted eye pillow can penetrate the vagus nerve which controls many critical body functions such as: mood, immune response, digestion and heart rate. The light pressure of the eye pillow on your eyelids ends messages to this nerve to calm and relax. Click here for more info about eye pillow benefits.

Pink Himalayan Salt
There are a million benefits to this amazing salt but why I chose it for the eye pillow is that historically salt has been used for protection, purification, cleansing and dispelling negativity. It is very grounding and can help center your energy as well.

Both dried lavender and Lavender essential oil are used in the this recipe. Lavenders' aromatic influence is very calming and relaxing, promotes consciousness, love, peace and a general sense of well-being. Lavender has been used to promote rest and relaxation and also has a spiritual frequency which can help to open the third eye chakra.

Amethyst Crystals
Amethyst is a great stone for protection and can help with intuition and insight, connecting to your higher self, manifestation, reduce stress and anxiety. It is associated with the third eye and crown chakras. It resonates well with Lavender essential oils making them a perfect pair for this recipe.

All of these ingredients work well together to balance energy, calm and relax you and aid in your meditation practice.

Essential Oil Infused Crystal Terrariums

Essential Oil Infused Crystal Terrariums
You know I love me some essential oils and I may be a little obsessed with crystals too :) This fun project combines two of my favorite things into a beautiful decorative piece to enjoy in any room of the house or even your desk in the office too :) Have little ones? Let them join in on the fun and create their very own.

The first step is to gather your supplies and go crystal shopping!!! Yay! This is by far the most fun part. Gathering little treasures to make into a work of art. Check out your local rock shop or metaphysical store, farmers markets (my daughter and I scored some nice polished stones and agates), ebay, or go through your collection and pick out pieces and put them on display.

  • Terrariums or decorative pots (Check you local craft store. I snagged mine at Michael's and Joann's)
  • Crystals or course :)
  • Sand, river rocks, or other small decorative pebbles (Check the craft store and even the $ store)
  • Air plants and/succulents (I ordered my air plants on amazon and purchased some small succulents from Lowe's.)
  • Other decorative things like moss, bark, figurines etc... the possibilities are endless!
  • Your favorite essential oils
  1. First step is to clean your terrarium and you will need your Lemon essential oil for this. Mine had so many sticky price tags on them. Put a few drops of lemon oil on a cloth and wipe away that sticky gunk from the price tags. So easy!
  2. Chose your crystals. I chose to use Amethyst, Pyrite and Quartz for three of my arrangements.
  3. Next I simply added in some sand or pebbles to the bottom of the terrarium just to the underside to the opening.
  4.  Next place your air plants and crystals. Have fun with it! Move things around and try different configurations.
You can also make some using little plants and succulents. For mine I chose this larger shallow glass bowl. I arranged the plants, filled it in with dirt then added river rocks and moss on top. Then found this awesome quartz cluster for the center piece and added a few quartz points and geodes in between the plants.

Perfect little project for you and the kids to do! My 4 year old daughter had so much fun playing around with adding things and moving them around and it was so fun to see her little creative mind at work!

So you might be thinking where do the essential oils come in?
So now that you have your arrangements complete you can place a few drops of your favorite essential oil on the sand or pebbles (not the crystals) and they will smell amazing! You can even go as far as making little clay pieces or add pieces of wood or bark and add the essential oils to those as well. You can choose any oil that speaks to you but one of my favorite combinations is Lavender and Amethyst.

Lavender & Amethyst
These two are recommended together often because the highest resonance is between amethyst and Lavender.  Amethyst is a great stone for protection and can help with intuition and insight, connecting to your higher self, manifestation, stress and anxiety. It is associated with the third eye and crown chakra. Similarly Lavender is also an amazing essential oil to relax and calm the mind and body and is associated with the third eye and crown chakra and its frequency may help with emotional and spiritual connection.

Heart Opening Essential Oil & Crystal Perfume

Heart Opening Essential Oil & Crystal Perfume
Want to wear a delicious scent without all of the harmful toxins in conventional perfumes? You can easily make your own DIY natural parfum using a few simple ingredients you already have and essential oils.

So what's wrong with Parfum?
Conventional parfumes are made using "fragrance". Companies do not have to label what ingredients are in their parfum because of the Trade Secrets Act. So we as the consumer have absolutely no idea what harmful toxins are in anything that is labeled with "fragrance" as an ingredient. Chemicals in fragrance are so toxic studies have shown that breathing them in as just as bad as breathing in second hand smoke.

How to get started?
I'm going to share one of my favorite recipes here for a natural DIY parfum but I need to give credit to Melissa Poepping and her book Essential ParfumerieThis girl has done all of the work for us ladies and come up with some seriously amazing recipes using essential oils. She even came out with a book with men's cologne recipes too!

I love to apply of spray this blend right over my heart to help open up the heart chakra and let love flow in and out.

What is the Heart Chakra?
Your heart chakra is located in the center of your chest and is the central energy center of your body with the three higher chakras located above it and the three lower chakras located below it. The heart chakra is your center of love, compassion, and spirituality. With in this chakra resides the energies of courage, forgiveness, peace, gratitude, and connectivity. Essential oils like Rose and Bergamot can help open the heart chakra and radiate love energy.

Citrus, Rose & Crystal Bath Soak

Citrus, Rose & Crystal Bath Soak
After making the Lavender Rose Salt Scrub a few weeks ago I got to thinking how lovely a bath soak would be :) So I got out my mixing bowls and essential oils and went to work. With Mother's day just around the corner this recipe makes a perfect gift for your mom, sister, aunt or friend. This recipe combines the lovely floral scent of rose with the sweet citrus scent of Tangerine and Bergamot essential oils and the heart opening energy of Rose Quartz stones.

Glass mixing bowl
1 cup Epsom Salts
1 cup pink Himalayan salt (I used the larger granular)
2 tbsp organic dried rose petals (or more if you like)
20 drops rose hip seed oil*
Glass jar
muslin bags *
5-7 small tumbled rose quartz crystals*
*These ingredients are optional

  1. In a glass bowl mix salts and dried rose petals together until well combined.
  2. Add in rose hip seed oil and essential oils and mix well. Rose hip seed will make this moisturizing to the skin.
  3. Store in an airtight glass jar.
  4. To use scoop 1/4-1/2 cup into a small muslin bag. (You can add directly to the bath but you will want to skim the dried rose petals before letting the water drain).
  5. Add muslin bag into warm bath water and swish around until salts dissolve.
  6. Add 5-7 small tumbled rose quartz crystals in the tub around you. (Be sure to remove before draining the water)
  7. Sit back, relax and breath in the delicious scent.
So you may be asking why crystals in the tub?
By infusing your bath water with crystals it can help balance the chakras (energy centers) in the body, manifest intentions an influence energies. Crystals have their own healing frequencies and can travel easily in water because water is a good conductor. Water is also highly programmable so by adding the crystals you can raise the frequency of the bath water you are relaxing in. Win win!

Rose Quartz
Rose quartz is great stone for love, kindness, compassion and self-love. Good stone to use for emotional healing and to promote joy and peacefulness. Helps to open the heart chakra and connect with divine energy. Rose quartz has been used in beauty regimens for centuries. You can actually apply them to your face to areas that are puffy. To learn more about crystals check out Hibiscus Moon's blog.

Affirmations are positive statements that can help you to overcome  negative thoughts. When you repeat them often, and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes. Here are some great heart opening affirmations to use while soaking in your essential oil & crystal infused bath.

"I am fully open to giving and receiving love"
"My Love is unconditional"
"I invite peace into my heart"
"I open my heart to receive and express the energy of love"

Tangerine has a sweet, calming aroma. It has a very concentrated citrus scent that is sweeter than any others in the citrus family. It is great for emotional balance and is very calming to the mind.

Bergamot has a very uplifting and refreshing scent perfect for opening up the heart chakra to radiate love energy. It is also good for emotional balance and can help relieve tension during times of occasional stress. It can be soothing to the skin & has skin cleansing properties.
